Presenting the Community Mosaic “Reflections”

On November 30, 2011, in Uncategorized, by Jack Gieseking

After one year of work and over 100 tile-signing events, I am now proud to present the community art work “Reflections.” This community art work is made up of 11,424 wooden tiles that have all been personalized by members of the Vadnais Heights Community.  Thank you so much to our Advisory Committee and faithful group of volunteers, who by encouraging the entire Vadnais Heights Community to participate helped to prove that through working together we can make the impossible possible.

Thank you so much for your help and participation!

Sincerely,

Carly Schmitt

Laying the Last Tile

On September 22, 2011, in Uncategorized, by Jack Gieseking

As one of her last stops before leaving town, former Vadnais Heights Mayor and champion project supporter, Sue Banovetz helped artist Carly Schmitt lay the last tiles into the community mosaic. Sue is relocating to the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where she will be handling public relations, media relations and legislative initiatives.  The Make [Y]Our Mark project is extremely thankful for the incredible amount of time, and support, Sue put into this community art work.  What a fantastic way to bring a close to her long career of public service in the City of Vadnais Heights.

A special thanks to volunteers Melissa, Katie and Sue for all their help today.

Sadly, today is the last day that project photographer and technical advisor Sven B. Mueller will be able to help out with the project.  With his tremendious help we were able to complete almost 3/4 of the entire mosaic.  Thank you Sven for your incredible work ! You will be missed.

Putting Together a Community Masterpiece: Part 2

The mosaic starts to take shape as specific tiles are selected from 38 different colors to fill in the design.  The tiles are glued down, three rows at a time, on two large panels.  These panels will later be framed and hung on the walls in the Vadnais Heights Commons.
